This photo is from a few years back, what we are looking at is spalling of a concrete floor in a basement. This home is located in the community of New Brighton. What's causing the white efflorescence is from Sulphates in ground reacting with water and eating away at the concrete. Eventually the foundation and slab will need extensive repairs $$$ Since the community of New Brighton was built on land containing high sulphate content, many homes in this area will succumb to a similar fate over the coming decades. Something to think about and to look out for when buying in the SE. If a basement is finished, be sure to check the furnace room as that space is typically unfinished.
